ABOUT ME
CONTACT
More and more I'm being drawn to landscapes, albeit they don't always have a representational quality that you typically expect when you hear that term. In some of the work there is less landscape than a single branch in focus, but the more recent work (not yet posted here) goes beyond one tree against a flat or stark background into exploring distance and shape. More to come, this is the collection that I am currently working on.

Roll Into the Night

An interesting effect of "rolling clouds" that I kind of liked. I think I'll do a little more of this; I especially think it's interesting to see the clouds fading away (blurry) in the top of the sky and more defined abstract shapes in the bottom.

It's always Better on the Other Side

I had an idea to start to use an opaque top-paint to mask around areas that were in the foreground, and this painting is a result of my first explorations - turned out to look like back-lighting and I've started using it in a couple new paintings; really like the effect

Near Autumn

This painting started out as a fairly small sketch and the more I played around with it the more I started to really like it. At first I put it in a light colored frame that didn't do much for it, but in a darker frame the metallic greens really stand out (not visible on the website, unfortunately).

Friends in Flock

The largest painting that I've done to date, this was an exploration combining little birdies who are more realistically drawn in the foreground than the branch/sky pattern which predominates the background of the scene. I'm very happy with the way that it finished up and am thinking that I'll be painting more of these little birds in various settings!

Autumn Haze

A small piece, a departure from the bare trees in other paintings

Blue Tree

One of the first three of my explorations into the crinkled masa paper technique, I really liked how this piece turned out. At the time I wasn't sure what would happen (as it often is when trying out a new technique) but I fell in love with it despite it starting out simply as a test of something new.
