As I continued to work on white tree paintings I decided that they make up a full series that warrants their own page! All work is added to the page with the most recent at the top.
| Windfall by Moonlight
This was the first of my latest paintings which make use of strips of painted masa paper instead of entirely wrapping the canvas. This piece was shown at the 2011 "Around the Block" show at Parklane Gallery and sold as a part of that show. [12x12] SOLD
| Tree of Spirit
One of the paintings which doesn't show appear as well online as it does in person since you can't really see all the detail, "Tree of Spirit" was accepted into the 2011 Open show for the Eastside Association of Fine Arts and is now hanging at Parklane Gallery as part of the All Artists Salon show. [20X16] $400

| 2011 Miniature Paintings
For the first time I entered the 2011 International Juried Miniature Show at Parklane Gallery. The show is all through the month of May and is a real event each year in Kirkland. There are very specific rules which must be followed in order to qualify as a miniature, and I actually surprised myself at how much I enjoyed working in this small format. "Mini White Trees" [2 x 3] $225 Valley Walk" [3 x 5] SOLD

 | 657 Heart Street This painting is one of the largest that I've done and as a result there are details that don't really show up well here. There is a cabin nestled up between the trees at the top and letters/numbers in the earth below. The name of the painting references one set of numbers at the lower left, and "Heart Street" refers to the cabin which looks all snug, like a place that I'd love to call my own little retreat. [30x20] $625
 | The Roots Run Deep This was the first painting in which focused more on what's below the earth line than above. Turned out to be a real favorite! Notice also that the trees were used as the masthead for this website :-) This piece was sold during my Featured Artist show at Gallery North in the spring of 2010. [20x30] SOLD

| The Silver Apple I like this painting because of the left-hand edge with the watercolor paint bleeding and spreading out without being constrained. As with some of my other work, the detail of the silver apple hanging from the treebranch is hard to discern at this size. [24x18] $380
 | Forest Thicket (series of 4) This painting was part of a demo that I did at Parklane Gallery and then later completed. My process requires that each painting dries completely before I move on to the next layer so in order to do a demo I need to pre-work several pieces and start the demo with similar pieces at different stages of development. Ultimately I finished all 4, two of which have been sold [14X11] $175
 | She Stands Tall Many people have asked me why the title of this piece mentions only one "She" but there are three trees in the picture. The thought behind this is that the trees in the background are supportive, urging the main character to be tall and proud. [14X11] $500
 | The Sisters A moody piece which (to me) feels both tranquil and mysterious. [20x30] $600
 | Solidarity & Dreams in the Quiet of the Night Two 12x12 donated pieces which were sold at the Silent Auction for the artEast Gallery in 2008.
 | Winter White This painting started out as a "filler" meaning that I intended to work on it in during drying-time of other paintings – but it really started to come together nicely and ended up having a wonderful contrast between the branch structure and the loose space between the faraway trees. I was very happy about the way in which white is used in the foreground to define shape, and in the background white is used to define "non-shape" (the space between shapes) [20x24] SOLD
 | Field of Vision This is a very small piece although it's not obvious here on the website as I don't restrict myself to showing paintings true to scale in relation to each other. This is a sweet little painting with birdie-shapes that you almost don't notice at first. Purchased by a good friend during my featured artist show at Gallery North in 2010. [10x8] SOLD
 | Lone Stand Against All One of my largest pieces, this relatively simple painting has a nice contrast between the lacy tree branches and the spattered white "roots" below. [20x24] SOLD
 | Cranes in Flight and at Rest Hard to see in this reproduction, but these are origami cranes hanging from the branches of these what trees. This painting sold in September at Parklane Gallery. [9x19] SOLD

The Best Spent Hours Alone This painting is one that I've not yet shown at Parklane Gallery; it has become one of my favorites and although several people have offered to purchase it, it remains hanging in my own living room. What I love about this piece is that it allowed me to indulge in painting lovely lace-like white tree branches, but at the same time I am telling more of a story with the addition of a young woman sitting on a tree swing set apart from the forest, lost in the midst of whatever she is reading. As always, I'm striving for a juxtaposition... of realistic (the girl, although you can't see the detail in this picture), pattern (the branches) and abstract (the ground and sky). Is that snow on the ground? If so, why is she barefoot? If not, then when is everything white like bleached bones? Hmmm. [9x19] SOLD |

 | Safe Haven I started out working on this project mostly exploring a taller format with the same basic subject matter (white trees, lacy branches, abstract background) and then as the body of the piece began to take shape it because obvious that a small cabin belonged in the scene, suggesting a quiet haven against the elements. [9x19] SOLD
| Sentinel This small piece is a part of a larger set. [3.5x5.5] SOLD |
| Autumn Breeze, Winterberry Generally I work on two or three paintings at the same time, mostly to give me something to do when I'm waiting between treatments for the various layers to dry. Sometimes this means that the paintings will be similar in style or content, but most often not. In this case I worked on these two small little pieces at the same time and they have similar content and tone, but different underdrawing. They make a nice pair but also stand well on their own. [7x10] $300 ea |
 | No Need to Forage I love this painting! This is the first time that I've added a little extra in terms of elements into the scene. In this painting, there is a little bird feeder hanging off one branch, and two little birdies hiding up above. Hopefully the little birds can be a bit of a surprise the viewer can catch only after the first glance. SOLD |
 | White Trees III The last of the series of three White Tree paintings, similar to II, but with an interesting layered effect. [20x16] NFS |
 | White Trees II In the early fall I spotted a stand of trees against a backdrop of evergreens and I liked the contrast between the deciduous trees and those that will remain green. This sparked the start of a new series of bare trees.... I love the way the highly rigid stylized branches are in sharp contrast to the loose and random background texture. [15x13] SOLD |
 | White Trees One of the smaller bare tree paintings. This one in particular has a nice feeling of depth in the stand of trees, and it feels stark against a dark and slightly forbidding scene. This painting also has the distinction of being the first painting that I sold at Parklane Gallery - the same day that I did my first hanging! [10x10] SOLD |
